In memory of Kevin Maez (1986-2022), Attorney Greg Gold and the Colorado legal team at The Gold Law Firm provide five scholarship awards each semester to first-time college freshmen within the United States. Each award is worth $1,000, and awards will be mailed directly to the winning students’ financial aid offices.
Kevin Maez was a man whose life was a testament to dedication, care, and an unyielding drive. Despite facing early setbacks, including dropping out of high school, Kevin was unwavering in his determination to create a meaningful life for himself. He defied the odds by obtaining his GED and swiftly pursuing an associate's degree in computer science. His commitment didn't stop there; Kevin poured his energy into his work for the State of Colorado and RTD, excelling in computer services. Tragically, Kevin's promising journey was cut short when he fell victim to a careless driver on his way to work, passing away on May 13, 2022. To honor his memory and the indomitable spirit he embodied, The Gold Law Firm has established a scholarship aimed at empowering ambitious students who, like Kevin, possess the drive to overcome challenges and build a brighter future.
The Gold Law Firm is honored to offer scholarship awards to freshmen who have spent their early education taking part in challenging skill-building activities such as Scouts, acting or theater, debate club, and speech. We believe that participation in and dedication to such activities greatly aid in a student’s development of integral leadership skills, confidence, and responsibility. Through The Gold Law Firm Challenge Yourself Scholarship, our team hopes to make educational opportunities more attainable for students who make an effort to improve as individuals both inside and outside the classroom.
All details pertaining to the scholarship program can be found throughout the different sections on this page, including eligibility criteria, application requirements, evaluation procedures, and our contact information.
Eligibility Details
Through The Gold Law Firm Challenge Yourself Scholarship, we are looking to provide financial assistance for college freshmen who were active in one of the following activities in high school or childhood:
- Scouts
- Acting/Theatre
- Debate Club
- Speech
In addition to a history of participating in one or more of these activities, all eligible applicants must be planning to attend or have already enrolled in an accredited college or university as an incoming freshman. The student must also hold citizenship or permanent residency within the United States and be at least 17 years of age upon applying for the scholarship.
Application Instructions
To be considered for one of our Fall 2026 Gold Law Scholarship awards, students must submit an essay (appr. 500 words) that includes the following:
A thoughtful response to the following question:
How has participation in activities such as scouts, acting, debate, and/or speech helped you get through difficult periods of your life, build leadership skills, or prepared you for success in the future?
Each essay should contain at least one embedded image to assist in the applicant's message. The Gold Law Firm believes in the power of imagery for communication. We regularly provide courts and juries with documents that contain not only our legal arguments but also images that assist with our communication.
We also ask all applicants to submit their contact information and proof of enrollment for the upcoming semester (which may be submitted as a class schedule, acceptance letter, or current transcript). Please make sure all documentation provided is in PDF or .docx format.

Marcus W. Viles Community Growth Scholarship: Deadline June 15
To apply: Click Here
At Viles & Beckman, we believe in the development, enrichment, and protection of our local communities. As a personal injury law firm, we assist injured individuals in obtaining the compensation they deserve. However, we recognize that recovering from a serious injury requires a collective community effort. Our commitment to making a positive impact is reflected in our company-sponsored team serve days, where we actively participate in community service, and our collaborations with local organizations for holiday food and toy drives, among other initiatives.
In 2023, we expanded our community outreach by founding the Viles & Beckman Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of Empowering Young Minds, Illuminating Futures. Our focus is on supporting children in the community, providing them with the opportunities, skills, and resources they need to succeed in their chosen paths. The foundation was established by our executives, Michael Beckman, Kayla Grayson, and Marcus Viles. Tragically, Marcus Viles passed away shortly after the foundation’s inception, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Marcus Viles was a beacon of hope and inspiration. The son of a rocket scientist, Marcus possessed a brilliant mind and a remarkably generous heart. He believed in treating everyone with kindness and generosity, embodying the philosophy that “you get more with honey than with vinegar.” Marcus’s warmth and inviting nature shone through even in challenging times. He was deeply invested in the well-being of his employees, taking a genuine interest in their families, personal goals, and overall welfare. His vision was to create a workplace where everyone felt valued and knew their contributions made a significant impact.
As a leader, Marcus was unmatched. He was an outside-the-box thinker, a creative innovator, and a true visionary. He always dared to ask, “But what if we could do this?” with a sparkle in his eye, pushing boundaries, challenging limits, and inspiring us to think big and make a lasting difference. Marcus left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Marcus had a profound passion for reading and learning. Establishing a scholarship program was one of his dreams. To honor his legacy, the Viles & Beckman Foundation awarded the inaugural Marcus W. Viles Community Growth Scholarship in 2023, shortly after his passing. This scholarship is dedicated to ensuring that our schools and local communities remain strong and supportive environments that uplift and sustain their citizens.

To apply: Click Here
Headbang For Science, a 501(c)(3) public charity, is an annual scholarship award for Heavy Metal loving high school seniors, undergrads, and grad students who are pursuing a career in healthcare and/or the physical sciences.
It’s the first scholarship foundation to directly provide financial aid to “Metalheads,” and was founded by SiriusXM curator/host and former Pharmacy grad student Jose “Metal Ambassador” Mangin in 2021.
This year, a total of $33K will go to three “far beyond driven” students, who have excellent grades, and a deep passion for Heavy Metal music. The board of directors includes a Grammy award-winning artist, the biggest rock fest promoter, and other music/medical industry leaders all wanting to give back to the Heavy Metal music community through a unique and academically motivating program.
Any high school senior, four-year undergraduate student, or graduate student who is pursuing a degree in healthcare or physical sciences may apply - BUT ONLY IF YOU LOVE HEAVY METAL.
