HESTEC Science Teacher Of The Year
Ricardo Ramirez, a Science teacher at San Benito High School, received the Hispanic Engineering Science and Technology (HESTEC) Science Teacher of the Year Award during the HESTEC Educator Day Reception at UTRGV-Edinburg. Ramirez, nominated by San Benito High School Principal Henry Sanchez and GEAR UP Coordinator Patricia Sandoval, had previously been recognized by the school district for having the highest Core AP passing rate at the campus two years in a row in AP Biology. Ramirez served as a GEAR UP UTPA Masters Teacher in 2015 and has served as a TAMUK/SBCISD Dual Enrollment Biology Teacher. He has served as AP Biology AP Physics and AP Environmental Science teacher. This year, he's teaching Chemistry, Dual Enrollment Biology, and AP Biology. He supports GEAR UP Math and Science by following and creating classroom labs from the College Board and various universities utilizing TI Nspire technology, Google Classroom, Ipads and laptops.
